Tropical disturbance could become Tropical Storm Bret tonight
Tropical STORM WARNING (no.2) for St. Vincent and the
Grenadines
Issued at 11:00 p.m Sunday, 18th June, 2017
At 11 pm tonight, the Tropical DISTURBANCE was centred near
latitude 7.9 North, longitude 52.4 West, with an associated 1005 mb low
pressure. The disturbance has a high chance of becoming Tropical Storm Bret
later tonight or Monday, before reaching St. Vincent and the Grenadines Monday
evening into Tuesday. The disturbance was about 540 miles east-southeast of the
Windward Islands moving toward the west near 23 mph (37km/h) and expected to
cross over our islands Monday evening and Tuesday.
Maximum sustained winds of near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher
gusts on the northern side of the system. Storm force winds extend outward up
to 60 miles (95 km), mainly northwest through northeast of the center.
Projections are for the center to pass 180 miles south of mainland St. Vincent.
This means, that the Grenadine Islands can expect storm conditions and mainland
St. Vincent could be placed on the dangerous northern side of the system.
Expected Conditions across St. Vincent and the Grenadines
late Monday into Tuesday
Deteriorating conditions with pockets of moderate to heavy
showers, locally heavy rains, thunderstorms, occasional gusty winds by Monday
evening.
Rainfall accumulations of 4 to 8 inches (100 to 200 mm)
could cause Flash-flooding and land slippage.
Very strong NORTH-EAST winds reaching tropical storm force
40 mph or 35 kt (65 km/h) by Monday night turning to SOUTH-SOUTHEAST 50 mph or
45 kt (84 km/h) by Tuesday morning.
Seas Moderate (1.8-2.5m) by Monday afternoon on east coast;
Very rough to high becoming 6.0 m â 7.0 m (19 â 23 ft) across SVG by Monday
night into early Tuesday, with easterly swells.

Meteorological Services are monitoring the system and will provide updates,
watches or warnings as necessary â Next update 6 am tomorrow Monday.
Please pay close attention to local radio and television
stations, as well as other reliable media channels for weather related
information.
SMALL CRAFT operators are warned of the gale/storm
conditions and should not venture into open ocean.
Residents, sea-bathers and motorists should take all
necessary precautions.
