St. Vincent and the Grenadines may be used for warm up matches for the 2007 Cricket World Cup.
The nation missed out in its bid to host competition matches, but the premier cricket ground, the picturesque Arnos Vale Playing Field will still see some of the action. {{more}}
International Cricket Committee president Ehsan Mani paid tribute to the Caribbean region at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Montego Bay, Jamaica last Tuesday evening.
Barbados will host the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007, while Jamaica holds the Opening Ceremony and Opening Match.
The ceremony, which outlined the allocation of matches for each of the eight venues, was attended by a host of officials including chairman of the local World Cup committee Michael Findlay and president of the local and Windwards Cricket Boards Lennox John.
Barbados received the ‘Black’ package which allows it to host the Final, three of the largest Super Eight matches, and three other Super Eight matches.
Jamaica secured the ‘Yellow’ package, giving them the Opening Ceremony and Opening Game, one semi-final, and six first round matches. Additionally, the West Indies team will be based there.
The ‘Blue’ package providing for one semi-final and six first round matches will be at Beausejour Stadium in St Lucia. And England will be based there.
The ‘Red’ package enables Antigua and Barbuda to stage three of the largest Super Eight matches and three other Super Eight matches.
The ‘Green’ offer provides for six Super Eight matches and will be played in Grenada.
Guyana secured a similar ‘Green’ package with six Super Eight matches.
Trinidad and Tobago was granted the ‘Brown’ package and they will stage six First Round matches. India will be stationed there.
St. Kitts/Nevis was given the ‘Orange’ tag and will stage six First Round matches and will have the added attraction of hosting defending World Cup champion Australia.
