Bascombe family to take legal action against hospital
Lawyer Bayliss Frederick has alleged that Patrice Bascombe died as a result of gross negligence.
Frederick who is representing the family in court told SEARCHLIGHT that a pathologist was brought in from Trinidad, and confirmed that the 18-year-old died from septicemia or blood poisoning.{{more}}
The lawyer said that the family is taking legal action against the government and hopes to ensure that no other family has to endure the loss that they suffered because of the alleged negligence at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.
On Tuesday, September 5 Bascombe was involved in an accident at the Lodge Village/Redemption Sharpes area and was rushed to the hospital where she died on Thursday September 7, after being under observation by doctors.
The driver of the car in which Bascombe was a passenger has been released on $10,000 bail.
The 27-year-old Vivert Bridgewater, a national of Suriname who is residing at Villa has been charged with reckless driving.
Bridgewater is a student nurse.
It is alleged that Bascombe who was not wearing a seatbelt was tossed from the vehicle.
The hearing has been adjourned until March 13, 2007.
