Schools in St Vincent and the Grenadines will remain closed for an additional two weeks.

This is according to an update posted on the official Facebook page of Minister of Health, Luke Browne.

“The Ministry of Education met with health officials this morning to discuss the re-opening of schools. The decision was made that schools would remain closed for the time being and that the situation would be reviewed in 2 weeks,” Browne said in his post.

Several schools across the country have already started engaging students using various e-learning platforms.

The Health minister also noted several other developments surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.

Browne’s post said the Isolation Centre will be officially opened soon.

“The actual start date would be provided in a subsequent update. We continue to receive support from local, regional and international communities for our COVID-19 response,” he said.

He noted that the second person who was diagnosed with COVID-19 had made a full recovery.

And he thanked God for the development.

SVG now has 12 confirmed cases, 10 of which are active and two recoveries.

“The Ministry of Health is doing its best to minimise the risks that COVID-19 poses to our population.  We must not lower our guard or become complacent.  It is possible for us to see additional cases,” Browne said. “We must continue to be vigilant and guided by the science.  Wash your hands, maintain physical distance and take all reasonable precautions.”

The health minister added that “if we join forces, we will overcome all the challenges associated with COVID-19.  We will certainly beat this coronavirus pandemic together”.
