Commissioner of Police Colin John has acknowledged the role of citizens in the recapture of escaped prisoners Veron Primus and Olric “Chucky” Hanson.

In a release issued on Thursday, hours after the recapture of the two murder accused, the police said that at about 9:30 am, acting on credible information received, a party of police officers journeyed to a house in Campden Park and recaptured the escapees.

“During the process, a struggle ensued and Olric Hanson received a gunshot wound to his left leg. He was taken to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital for medical attention.”

In the release, the Commissioner acknowledged that “citizens were on high alert and concerned for their safety”.

He therefore thanked the general public for “their patience, cooperation and support during this period”.

The Commissioner also thanked all of the police officers who participated in the operation to recapture the prisoners.

Primus is serving a sentence at Her Majesty’s Prison for escaping lawful custody and is awaiting trial for murder, while Olric “Chucky” Hanson is awaiting trial for murder, robbery and burglary. Both prisoners escaped lawful custody in the early morning hours of Wednesday, December 9, 2020.
