80-year-old male is SVG’s second Covid-19 fatality

An 80-year-old man is the second person in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) to die of Covid-19.

The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) said today that the man was admitted to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital on  Friday, January 15, 2021, with complications of a chronic noncommunicable disease.

“The elderly gentleman tested positive for COVID-19 during the routine screening conducted on all admissions. The patient who was managed on the COVID-19  Isolation Ward became unstable and died at 4:30 am today, January 18, 2021,” the release said.

This country’s first Covid-19 death was a 49-year-old woman who died on  Friday, January 15.

According to NEMO, she had “multiple pre-existing conditions” and “presented to the  Hospital Services during the evening of January 14 with difficulty breathing. The  patient, who was confirmed to be positive for COVID-19 on admission, rapidly  deteriorated” and died at 5 pm on January 15, 2021.

Four hundred and ninety-four cases of COVID-19 have been reported in St  Vincent and the Grenadines as of January 17, 2021. One hundred and eighteen persons have recovered, 374 cases remain active  and two persons with COVID-19 have died.
