Olympic Week celebrations 2022 : ‘Move for Peace’
The St Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee (SVGOC), will celebrate Olympic Week 2022 from this Sunday, June 19.
Under the theme “ Move for Peace”, the week of activities commence with a church service at the Arnos Vale Covenant Assembly.
A press conference is slated for Tuesday, June, 21 at the conference room of the National Sports Council, at Arnos Vale from 10:30 a.m; and on Thursday, June 23, Olympic Day, a message from president of the SVGOC, Stephen Joachim will be aired.
Thus, St Vincent and the Grenadines will join the rest of the world in acknowledging Olympic Day, which is a global celebration of the International Olympic Committee’s formation and the modern Olympic Movement by Pierre de Coubertin in 1894.
Also, on Thursday, affiliates of the SVGOC will gather for a social function, where they will be able to interact and fraternize.
The week of activities culminate on Sunday, June, 26 with the staging of the Olympic Day Run in Layou.
Preceding the Run will be a triathlon from the waterfront through the streets of Layou. The event includes Swimming, Cycling and Athletics.
This year’s full week of activities marks a return in a wholesome way as the COVID- 19 pandemic did not permit full-scale celebrations and gatherings in 2020 and 2021.
