PM Gonsalves honoured during official visit to Nicaragua
PRIME MINISTER Dr Ralph Gonsalves is now into the third day of a three-day official visit to Nicaragua.
The Prime Minister and his delegation arrived in the Nicaraguan capital city of Managua on Sunday July 17 and was met at the Augusto Cesar Sandino International Airport by the Foreign Minister of Nicaragua, Denis Moncada and Minister Advisor to the President for Foreign Affairs and the Greater Caribbean, Michael Campbell.
The other members of the delegation include deputy Prime Minister Montgomery Daniel wife of the Prime Minister Eloise Gonsalves; Dyke Cato, and John Nero community activists; Inspector Irwin Adams Security Officer, and Sehon Marshall, Press Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister.
During the three-day visit, Gonsalves has been the guest of honour at a number of regional, municipal and national functions. On Monday July 18, Gonsalves visited the Garifuna community of Orinoco where he met with communal leaders and was treated to cultural events and a tour of places of interest. He also visited the Afro-Caribbean community of Bluefields where he met with the regional and municipal authorities.
Last night, July 18, the Prime Minister was bestowed the “Doctor Honoris Causi Award” from the Universities of the Autonomous Regions of the Nicaraguan Caribbean Coast (URACCAN), and the Bluefields Indian & Caribbean University (BICU) at a ceremony that took place at URACCAN University.
Today, July 19, Gonsalves will participate in the commemoration of the 43rd anniversary of the triumph of the Popular Sandinista Revolution as the special guest of President of Nicaragua Daniel Ortega.
The delegation is scheduled to depart Nicaragua tomorrow, Wednesday July 20.
En route to Nicaragua, the Prime Minister and deputy Prime Minister met with officials of the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in the capital city Caracas. The Venezuelan delegation was led by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Carlos Faría, and included Vice Minister for the Caribbean and President of the Alba Bank, Raul Li Causi, Vice Minister for Economic Cooperation, Ramon Gordils, and other officials including from PetroCaribe.
