Football match officials up for recognition
Several football officials, who have served in the capacities of referees and assistant referees (linesmen) will be recognized for their contribution to the sport at a special ceremony next Wednesday, August 3.
The recognition ceremony is set for the Methodist Church Hall in Kingstown, beginning at 4 pm.
This is an undertaking by the SVG Referees Association, headed by Elron Lewis.
According to Lewis, “We thought it best to give recognition where it is due, as these referees have slipped into retirement and were never told a formal thank you, and we want to do just that”.
He revealed that Wednesday’s ceremony is one of two planned for 2022.
“We will be doing one set of awards next week, while another is planned for December,” Lewis told SEARCHLIGHT.
Lewis disclosed that in total, about 30 match officials will be recognized.
