Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Sir Louis told the media that although those who protested have a constitutional right to do so, but they need to make sure that they are protesting in a manner that is commensurate with the issues at hand.
“If you are going to break the law it must be for a higher principle, moral principle that you feel compelled to do that,” Sir Louis stated.
Describing it as ridiculous to protest about a $1, Sir Louis said that there is no intention to change the regulation that had been put in place at the terminal in relation to paying the $1 fee.
Sir Louis also drew attention to the fact that despite the protest action getting out of hand, the police were able to maintain security and the majority of persons had to pay the fee to get on to the wharf.
Sir Louis said that he is hoping that if there is a problem with regard to the implementation of the fee, that the port authority will take corrective measures so as to prevent any hardship or burdens that may have occurred to persons moving from one place to another.
