Juniors put on top show at Park
Carnival city, Victoria Park came alive Tuesday as thousands of young spectators came out to support their favorite contestants in the Junior Calypso and Soca Monarch show.
The competition, which was split into three different categories saw the primary school students participating in the calypso category only, while the secondary school students competed in both calypso and soca.{{more}}
Despite her small size, young Sylvorn Nanton of the Fancy was able to make her voice heard and do her school and village proud with her rendition âStop Discriminatingâ.
Nanton, who is a student of the Fancy Government School was able to convince the judges that she had what it takes to wear the primary schoolâs calypso crown.
Latifah Richards also called âSinging Lily, the 2006 primary school calypso monarch from Calder had to settle for the second position with her song âOnly a Womanâ, while Terancia
Cornwall of the Park Hill Government placed third with her rendition Parents Loose Controlâ.
In the secondary school calypso competition, Zamfir âMan Zangieâ Adams of the Bethel High School was able to retain the crown with his song âConfusedâ.
Natalie Gibson of the West St. George Secondary School took the second position as she sang the song âMy Planâ while Girlsâ High School student Donella Power had to settle for the third position with her song âYouths Change up Your Styleâ.
In the Junior Soca Monarch Category Hans John of the St. Joseph Convent Marriaqua captivated both the judges and the audiencesâ attention with his song âMash up the placeâ. His performance earned him the Junior Soca Monarch title.
John, who came on in the eight position was able to wake up the audience with his energetic moves and the colourfully dressed dancers who accompanied him on stage.
Faylicia John of the West St. George Secondary placed second with her song â Soca musicâ while Zamfir âMan Zangieâ Adams of Bethel High School placed third with his song âActionâ.
The show was held in collaboration of the Carnival Development Committee and was sponsored by the National Broadcasting Corporation among other sponsors. (SB)
