Farmers who are planning to re-plant bananas under the banana replanting programme will soon have an abundant supply of plants.

On Wednesday, this country received a shipment of 10,800 banana plants of the Jaffer variety from Israel. These young plants will be sent to the Ministry’s greenhouse facilities at Rivulet and Belmont (Leeward) for hardening, after which they will be distributed to farmers throughout the country.{{more}}

Minister of Agriculture, Montgomery Daniel, told SEARCHLIGHT that they will be receiving an additional 90,000 plants from Israel within the next six to eight weeks.

Some 5,500 plants of the Williams variety were produced this week at the Rabacca Tissue Culture lab. There are already 100,000 plants of the Williams variety in the hardening stages at the Ministry’s facilities at Rivulet and Belmont.
