Police are investigating a case of fraud of over $500,000 at the National Lotteries Authority, and two employees have been suspended, pending the outcome of the investigations.{{more}}

Information reaching SEARCHLIGHT suggests that the alleged scam involves the 3-D game, but is in no way a case that questions the integrity of the game, that is, the randomness of the numbers called in the draws.

Our sources say the alleged scam, which is suspected to have been going on for a number of months, involves a breakdown in the sequence of events leading up to a draw, making it possible for bets to be placed after the winning numbers had been drawn.

Police sources told SEARCHLIGHT that while the investigation has started into the matter to determine the involvement of the suspended employees, it is believed that the net of persons involved will get wider, and go beyond National Lotteries Authority employees.

“We are giving the police full cooperation on this matter, and intend to see this process through to the end,” said Deputy Chairman of the National Lotteries Authority Grantley Williams, when SEARCHLIGHT contacted him earlier this week.

Williams reiterated, as was stated earlier, that the investigation being conducted doesn’t point, in any way at all, to any compromise in the integrity and fairness of the game.

“We are in constant communication with the police,” Williams assured SEARCHLIGHT, saying that they have every intention of following through with any prosecution procedure that the police deem appropriate at the conclusion of the investigations.
