Robbers pull off daring daylight robbery at drinks factory

A daring daylight robbery at the Campden Park Industrial Estate on Monday has left the St. Vincent Brewery Ltd.’s accounts short of close to EC$400,000.

At about 1:50 p.m., three masked men managed to circumvent security at the Brewery’s administrative building and entered the cashier’s office.{{more}}

According to reports reaching Searchlight, on entering the cashier’s office, the men pushed the cashier to the ground and reportedly “roughed up” a male employee who came to her assistance, threatening him with a gun.

The masked men reportedly went directly to the vault and removed EC$260,315.95 in cash, and cheques valued at $102,787.94, police told Searchlight.

Reports reaching Searchlight indicate that the men immediately ran from the building, and at least two of them boarded a minibus heading for Kingstown. Searchlight understands that Brewery employees followed the van in two vehicles, and at the same time alerted the police. When the men alighted the van at Little Tokyo, they were kept under surveillance by the employees, until the police arrived and apprehended two of the men.

At press time, none of the money had been recovered, and no one had been arrested, but SEARCHLIGHT is reliably informed that three men, including one Brewery employee, are assisting the police with investigations.

Manager of the St. Vincent Brewery Ltd. Heinz Moser, in a brief statement to this newspaper, indicated that his company was working closely with the police towards quickly solving the crime.
