Misfortune follows Jack family
The killing last Friday of a 34-year-old Dickson labourer continues a strange pattern of tragedy which seems to be following a family from that North Windward village.
It is a virtual plague, which has seen the death of three brothers in violent circumstances over a two-year period. {{more}}
Sherwin Jack succumbed to injuries received in an incident for which Cassian Perriera, a 31-year-old mason from the same area was remanded when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Simone Churaman last Tuesday.
Perriera is expected to return to court March 29 for Preliminary investigations into the incident.
Jack has the dubious distinction of being the nationâs first murder victim. And his youngest brother Kenville, a 28-year-old farmer has expressed much sadness, which he put in the context of the familyâs misfortune.
The gloomy legacy began with deaths in the same week of 2003 when Elton was shot dead at Largo Height April 29, followed by Errol beaten in Paulâs Avenue, Kingstown May 1.
The accused in Eltonâs case was given a jail sentence, but the other involving Errol remains one of the countryâs unsolved matters.
Cyril Jack, uncle of the deceased recalled seeing his nephew earlier last Friday, but by nightfall, the village was plunged into grief. He heard the news when he returned from the fields, and confessed: âI didnât believe.â
But the reality was that Sherwin had been struck, the culmination of an argument earlier that day.
Kenville reflected on the killings but prepared to be strong for Sherwinâs burial this Sunday afternoon.
