21.JAN.11

John Benhur Culzac was born on 28th September, 1942, to Gladstone and Cecily Culzac of Kingstown. He was the first of four children. John came to Fancy in the early fifties to spend time with his uncle Fitzstephen and his wife Emily Nanton. He received part of his education at the Fancy Government School. He was a well known character in Fancy as he had a speech problem. His parents thought that by sending him to Fancy it might help to improve his ability to speak, which it did a bit. He was able to say words such as “mama”, “papa” and thirdy for Shirley. In spite of this inability to speak clearly, he was a happy, friendly person. He finished his schooling at the Roman Catholic School in Kingstown, after which he was employed at Russell’s Cinema, then later as a carpenter on the island of Bequia. His last job was a maintenance worker at a hotel in Kingstown.

John never forgot to visit his relatives in Owia. He never turned up empty handed. He would always bring a box of groceries, along with something special for mama and grandmother Maudy. He would always greet his friends and family members with a hug and a big smile. He would always be remembered for his love and generosity to his friends and family. John was laid to rest on Monday, 10th January, 2011. The bible declares in John 5 verse 28 and 29: Do not marvel at this because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice. And come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life. Those who practice vile things to a resurrection of judgment. We trust that John will be in the resurrection of life.
