GOD’s NO ULP OR NDP!
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has dispelled claims he went to Trinidad to “work obeah”.
Addressing members of the Mt. Carmel Spiritual Baptist Archdiocese at the Colonarie Learning Resource Centre at an event held to commemorate Shaker Recognition Day last Sunday, Dr. Gonsalves said he could never understand how sensible people could be going about saying he went to Trinidad to work Obeah. {{more}}
The Prime Minister, who spent 10 days on a spiritual retreat at the Mount St. Benedict Monastery in the northern Trinidad highlands, said he went to pray and nothing more.
He told the congregation he had nothing to prove to anyone.
“I don’t have to justify anything to anybody. I know I went on a spiritual retreat. Imagine you go on a spiritual retreat and people attacking you because of politics; just because you go and praise the Lord.”
He added that if he had gone to four or five days of Carnival, no one would have complained.
Dr. Gonsalves said he was not going to be worried about what those who have levelled criticisms against him are saying. He said the way his detractors are operating they are obviously frightened.
“Certain spirits have been realised and they frightened. It is not me who make them frighten they make their own selves frightened,” he charged.
Dr. Gonsalves said up until now he does not know why he went to Trinidad.
“Honestly and truthfully, spiritual brethren, I felt I had to go and I asked that my wife talk to the Bishop and make the arrangements. That’s all.”
Dr. Gonsalves stated that God is neither NDP nor ULP and people should realise that no party has a monopoly on God.
At the service, the Prime Minister was given the second material gift of spiritual significance from Trinidad and Tobago in less than a week. The first had been a rosary received from Joyce Chinasing, daughter of former Governor-General of Trinidad and Tobago, Sir Solomon Ochoy, which was blessed by an Abbot while he was there. Dr. Gonsalves now wears this on his right wrist.
On Sunday the Prime Minister was given a giant lighted candle, as a gift from a Trinidadian visiting Baptist.
Dr. Gonsalves used the opportunity to display his rosary given to him during his pilgrimage.
