Jomo will practise law here
Jomo, de âlickle black boyâ from de Village was on Monday admitted to de Bar. Lickle Jomo who wid de others uses to spin top and pitch marbles, obstruct traffic playing his batânâball or âthree-goal-come-inâ soccer in the middle ah the narrow strip ah road, who when dey was tired and hungry after running up and down, playing, was up front wid de others stone-in hell out ah de villagers fruit trees, mangoes ânâ plums; ah even named ah golden apple after him; Monday gone Jomo come of age.{{more}}
He would be the first Murrayâs Village man to be called to de Bar and de turn-out by his villagers and close buddies to show solidarity and identify wid him was overwhelming to de extent, dat we were recognized and given honorable mention by Chief Justice Bruise-sly in his exhortation.
Everybody foh Jomo was there, Miss Molly his no non-cents Mom, all yuh had to do was come-plain to Miss Molly and say âdat boy or girl foh yuh getting out ah handâ, and it was licks like peas; also present were his siblings ânâ spouses and children. Ah lovely young lady sat next to me, her eyes were fixed on every move Jomo made, ah like what ah saw, and think he needs to know dat. PR who is ah Rockies man and DPP Colin presented him; tell me something, is Colin still acting DPP, ah wonder what he did, didnât do or not doing foh de Party? Dey should appoint Colin Dir-actor of Public Prosecution, anyhow back to Jomo eh.
I have written nuff things bout Jomo in previous articles. His early education was short and he sold newspapers on de streets in Kingstown, but dat was only where he started, de objective is where yuh end. De Judge noted dat he was well educated, ah brilliant scholar, who is licensed to practise law in de USA as well. Jomoâs buddy Dr Richard Cox would be pleased as I was, to hear Justice Bruise telling Jomo dat lately he noticed he was writing about hellât matters, âleave matters of hellât to de doctorsâ he told him âstick to what youâre good at, social issuesâ!
De session was not without its disclosures or exposes, Jomo was described by both PR and Colin as ah âProgressiveâ and de name Justice Saunders was also mentioned as being among the Progressives. When it was Justice Bruise time to speak, he disclosed dat Justice Bell in Grenada had been identified as or with the Progressives. But de Court sprang into a mild uproar when Sir Bruise said âI have something to say this morning, I too am a Progressiveâ! Sir Bruise since he was ah Mad-is-straight was ah no non-cents man, he had de remedy foh Carnival Violence, anyone who was charged foh bad behave-yah during de ten day festival was sent to prison to await ah hearing on ah date after Carnival, Mas in de Cell foh dem, and donât asked if it worked.
Ah told Lie-Za dat de learned Judge was happy foh Jomo and was in good spirits on Monday, but Lie-Za who always dipping-in she mouth, say is only one reason when ever yuh see Judges dey in such ah good mood, dat is when dey had something nice (to eat) after dinner de night before. Bruise-Sly should charge her foh con-tempt.
JUST DONâT OVER INDULGE
Ah had plans of going to de Kaiso Semi-finals, but it rained early and de thoughts of standing or sitting foh six hours in de wet discouraged me. Ah wish CDC will put de Semis at an out ah town venue on ah Sat-dey afternoon, mek it ah free show foh de whole family. Lie-Za tell me ah was not de only one who ran from de six hour show, all de ministers ran, only Tante Rainy was there, not another minister weathered de storm. De PM was out ah state at ah con-friends in Bo-bathe-us; ah few years ago he took copies ah Princess Moniqueâs Kaiso to ah similar Con-friends, he even gave her Par-liar-mint-array recognition. Ah wonder which ah de Kaisoâs he took to de Con-friends dis year. Lie-Za said he had asked foh ah copy ah âMan Slickâsâ tribute to his good Guv-ah-mint, but de bearer showed up wid two different CDâs âWay do demâ by Poser and âSt. Vincent Mash Upâ by I-Mad. Ah must insert here dat I-Mad had ah couple offensive lines in dat song, also I-Come second song was inappropriate foh Monarch Competition. And some ah dem Far-reign Kaisonians got de better of de Judges up in New York dis year. However ah hear dey appeared like true professionals on stage.
Is ah long time ah ainât hear ah Guv-ah-mint and its Prime Minister get so much licks at ah Carnival Semis, not ah good sign foh de Guv-ah-mint. Lie-Za said dat when De Man Age sang âAh Silent Majorityâ half ah de crowd was jumping in air; so ah asked her what happened to de other half she said : âdatâs de silenced, not silent majorityâ!
But Sunday Night will be âFire ah Victoriaâ. Bomani has de song to win âNot going down dey tonightâ if he sings it, Scar-pee-on was outstanding in de Semis, but experience will rule de stage on Sunday Night: De Man Age was there back in 1977 and still coming strong, so also was Scakes who was at his very best in de Semis, Poorsah is always ah strong contender, Brother Ebony ah researcher, could just pull it off dis year, once Abijah gets it bang on from de start heâs going to be hard to overlook. Any number can play but I-Pa keep saying he not letting go de Crown.
Only last week ah mentioned de unusual amount ah nice Soca material our Vincy Artistes producing dis year. Itâs like ah flood, de level just keep rising non-stop. Ah few days ago ah heard âRhythm in yuh soulâ by Kevin Browne and Shanelle, good stuff. Kevin is ah lickle prodigy, ah talented tenor Panman, Grade 8 music student now doing Science at UWI, keep it up Kevin. One ah de near-bars tipped me off dat Kevinâs ultra conservative Mom like she planning to go on stage wid him Sat-dey night, dey see her pull de window curtains and all day long she practicing to dance de Carnival Why-ne tune foh Kevin. Now how ah go write dat, next thing Fr Patrick Mc Intosh reads de column and mek noise wid her. How de young people thing go again? Balance! Dat gone thru is Oooh! Oooh! foh de Carnival, whatever, just donât over indulge, and wid dat ah gone again.
