Advisory #1 Wednesday, 26th September, 2018

A Tropical Storm Watch is now in effect for St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The tropical wave associated with the remnants of Tropical Depression Kirk has regenerated into Tropical Storm Kirk.
At 5:00 am today, Tropical Storm Kirk was located near 11.8N 52.7W or about 580 miles (935 km) east of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The minimum central pressure was 1004 mb (29.65 inches). Maximum sustained winds were near 45mph (75km/h). Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles (185 km) from the centre. Movement was towards the west near 18 mph (30 km/h). A westward to west- northwestward motion is expected through Friday night.
On this track, the center of Kirk is expected to pass between 80 to 100 miles north of St. Vincent and the Grenadines between Thursday morning and Thursday afternoon.
An Air Force Reserve reconnaissance aircraft will be investigating Kirk later this morning to provide more detailed information on the location and intensity of the storm. Regardless of development, sustained surface winds of between 25 to 35 mph (40 to 55 km/h) with higher gusts are expected to spread across the islands starting Wednesday night and persisting into Thursday.
In addition, pockets of moderate to heavy showers, periods of rain and scattered thunderstorms are expected. Rainfall accumulations of at least 2 to 4 inches (50 to 100 millimetres) are possible between Wednesday night and Friday morning. Some flash-flooding is likely in low lying areas. Thus, residents are urged to be on the alert and take all necessary precautions.
Adverse sea-conditions are expected to persist into the weekend. Low lying coastlines around the island will be particularly vulnerable especially at times of high tide. Large waves and dangerous rip tides can be expected creating unsafe conditions for small-craft operators. Sea- bathers and other users of the sea are being advised to stay out of the water.
Thus, a High-Surf Advisory and Small-Craft Warning will be in effect from 6:00 pm Wednesday, 26th September, 2018 until 6:00 a.m Monday, 1st October.
The next detailed Advisory will be at 11:30 am Wednesday morning.
