56-year-old unvaccinated female dies from COVID19, 321 cases now active
Another person has died from COVID19 in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), the second person to succumb to the viral illness this week.
The woman, “a 56-year-old female with pre-existing conditions died at the Argyle Isolation Facility (AIF) on September 15, 2021 from COVID-19 Pneumonia. The patient tested positive for COVID-19 on September 9, 2021 after presenting with symptoms typical of COVID-19 and was admitted to the AIF on September 10, 2021. The patient was unvaccinated. Her death brings the death toll from COVID-19 to 14,” a release from the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) said.
Meanwhile, 54 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from 338 samples processed on Wednesday September 15, 2021, resulting in a positivity rate of 15.97 per cent.
There are currently 11 patients admitted for COVID-19 at the AIF. Two are unstable. All are unvaccinated.
“One (1) new recovery was noted over the reporting period. Three hundred and twenty-one (321) cases are currently active and fourteen (14) persons with COVID-19 have died. Two thousand six hundred and sixty-seven (2667) cases of COVID-19 and two thousand, three hundred and thirty two (2332) recoveries have been recorded in St. Vincent and the Grenadines since March 2020.
In view of the confirmed presence of the Delta, Mu and Gamma variants in the community and the significant increase in the number of new infections, transmission, severe COVID-19 disease and deaths, strict enforcement and compliance with all protocols and recommendations by everyone is strongly recommended. The correct and consistent use of masks, avoidance of crowds, physical distancing, proper hand sanitizing and immunization with available vaccines have all been proven to significantly reduce the risk of being infected, getting sick and or dying from the COVID-19 virus,” the release from NEMO said.
