Five persons die of COVID19 in a one-day period in SVG
Five persons died of COVID19 pneumonia in St Vincent and the Grenadines between September 30 and October 1, 2021.
One patient is a 44-year-old male who tested positive for COVID-19 on September 28, 2021. The second patient is a 46-year-old male who tested positive for COVID-19 on September 19, 2021. The third patient is an 87-year-old male who tested positive for COVID-19 on September 27, 2021. Another patient is a 50-year-old male who tested positive for COVID
19 on September 28, 2021, and the fifth patient is a 27-year-old female who tested positive for COVID-19 on September 29, 2021. All patients were admitted to the COVID-19 ward at Milton Cato Memorial Hospital. All patients were unvaccinated. Their deaths bring the death toll from COVID-19 to 26.
Fifty-five new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from 356 samples processed on Wednesday September 29, 2021, resulting in a positivity of 15.4 per cent. Four cases were detected on exit screening. All other cases are contacts of known positive cases and persons seeking care. Forty-four rapid antigen positive results were reported for Wednesday September 29th, 2021.
There are currently 22 patients admitted for COVID-19 at the Argyle Isolation Facility. Twenty-one are unvaccinated and one patient is fully vaccinated. Twenty-nine patients are admitted to the COVID-19 wards at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital. Twenty six are unvaccinated, two patients are partially vaccinated, and one patient is fully vaccinated.
Eight (8) new recoveries were noted over the reporting period. One thousand and ninety-three (1093) cases are currently active and twenty-six (26) persons with COVID-19 have died. Three thousand, five hundred and sixty-three (3563) cases of COVID-19 and two thousand, four hundred and forty-four (2444) recoveries have been recorded in St. Vincent and the Grenadines since March 2020.
In view of the confirmed presence of the Delta, Mu and Gamma variants in the community and the significant increase in the number of new infections, transmission, severe COVID-19 disease and deaths, strict enforcement and compliance with all protocols and recommendations by everyone is strongly recommended. The correct and consistent use of masks, avoidance of crowds, physical distancing, proper hand sanitizing and immunization with available vaccines have all been proven to significantly reduce the risk of being infected, getting sick and or dying from the COVID-19 virus.
