Chance: Patrice’s life was well lived

Kenton Chance: I am forced to resort to a cliché and say that it was with great “shock and sadness” that I learnt of the death of my friend, Patrice Bascombe. “Shock and sadness” is the embodiment of understatements yet I cannot find words to appropriately describe what I felt on hearing such sad news. {{more}}Though the information had come from a reliable source, I NEEDED confirmation, clinging to a glimmer of hope as I made that call to St. Vincent just before 4a.m. I hoped that the information was prank at its worst. Unfortunately, it wasn’t and with the confirmation I felt liquefied.

For me, it is a timely reminder that that one is truly never too young to die and that there is wisdom in Solomon’s advice to “Remember now the Creator in the days of thy youth…” (Ecclesiastes 12: 1; Holy Bible). Indeed, bad things do happen to good people.

Patrice’s star was one that began shining at dusk and one might thing that it was snuffed out before the dawn. However, Patrice’s life, though short, was well lived. I will long remember her.
