Media man, salesman in Bajan lockup
Many in the media fraternity were shocked Sunday when it was learnt that one of their own had been arrested on drug charges in Barbados.
Lyf Compton, a reporter with the SEARCHLIGHT newspaper, and Aaron Frederick, an employee of Tri Star Boutique were arrested at the Barbadosâ Grantley Adams International Airport Sunday. {{more}}
Reports out of Barbados said that the duo were remanded Monday on charges of importing 77 pounds of marijuana with a street value of BDS$192,500.
Compton, 24, of Freeland, Mesopotamia and Frederick, 25, of Ottley Hall were not required to plead to the indictable charges of importing, having, trafficking and having cannabis with intent to supply.
A report from Barbados said that prosecuting Station Sergeant David Griffith objected to bail on the grounds that the two had entered the country on a one-way flight with no return ticket.
Both men had reportedly earlier alighted from a chartered SVG Air flight from Union Island. Barbados police say the drugs were discovered in two suitcases.
Compton and Frederick were remanded by Chief Magistrate Clyde Nichols to the Glendairy Prison until next Tuesday, January 25 when they will appear before the District âBâ Boarded Hall Magistratesâ Court.
After arrest they were taken to the Oistings Police Station where they spent Sunday night before being taken to court Monday.
