Gilleon O’Garro, Local Coordinator of the Unsung Heroes Programme, highlighted some of Dr. Child’s works and achievements.
Dr. Child migrated to St. Vincent and the Grenadines many years ago from London, England where she was born. Dr. Child, a physician, cared for many Vincentians throughout the years. Many recalled her leaving her vehicle and walking many miles to attend to her patients. She was also viewed as a very determined, dedicated person. No home was considered too poor for Dr. Child to visit.
She is also a talented artist, and has donated numerous paintings of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to charitable causes over the years. In one of her books she has managed to capture the unique architectural design of some buildings around capital Kingstown.
In appreciation of her work, $5000 was donated to her cause by the Unsung Heroes programme.
Last year’s Local Unsung Hero and regional finalist, Lucy Miguel was also present at the ceremony.
Members of the local Unsung Heroes Committee were also on hand including, Robert ‘Bob’ Haddock, Managing Director of Haydock Insurances Limited, Norma Keizer, Managing Editor of the SEARCHLIGHT Newspaper and Rosita Snagg, Director of Social Development in the Ministry of Social Development.
