Two killed, 5 nabbed in in high seas chase
At Press time, two men were still warded at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, under police guard, following a deadly shoot out between occupants of a pirogue and the Coast Guard last Sunday, September 23rd, off the coast of Bequia.{{more}}
Police have identified the seven men involved in the incident, including the two who were killed, as Venezuelan nationals.
Dead are Dlexdnele Munos, 40, and Mdtids Dominguez, 49.
Meanwhile, two other men, Andries Jose Cumanonoa and Theodore Dominguez, both 39 years old, were warded at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds.
The other men, Valentin Dominguez, 52, Dndres Dominguez, 32, and Merehor Sduche, 26, are in police custody, assisting with the investigations.
According to a release from Commissioner of Police Keith Miller, the incident took place at around 10:55 p.m., when Coast Guard officers were patrolling the area, along with police officers of the Rapid Response Unit and the Narcotics Division.
The release states that the police officers intercepted two vessels: a pirogue and a speed boat.
âThe units identified themselves and ordered the vessels to stop. A chase ensued, but the speed boat evaded the Coast Guard,â the release said.
According to the release, the occupants of the pirogue then fired on the lawmen, and they returned fire.
After disabling the vessel, the coast guard boarded it, and found the men.
There has been no word by police about what, if anything of consequence, was found on the vessel. (KJ)
