SVG athletes represent on big stage at Commonwealth Games
When the XXII Commonwealth Games get going in earnest today, Friday, July 29, St Vincent and the Grenadines will be contesting three disciplines: Swimming, Squash and Table Tennis.
The swimmers are slated to plunge into the pool at the Sandwell Aquatic Centre from 10:30 am BST/5:30 am Eastern Caribbean Time (ECT).
Making up the swim team are Jamie Joachim, Tia Gun Munro, Abigail De Shong, Kenale Allleyne, Bryson George and Shane Cadogan.
In Squash, Jason Doyle plays Rhys Dowling of Australia from 8:15 am ECT, while Othniel Bailey opposes Peter Creed of Wales from 8:45 am, while Jules Snagg will take on Temwa Chileshe of New Zealand from 9:30 am.
Also, today, Friday, July 29, Jada Ross faces 14-year-old Anahat Singh of India from 1:30 pm.
All matches take place at the University of Birmingham Hockey and Squash Centre.
Meanwhile, Table Tennis players Jessica Mc Carter, Unica Velox, Shanecia Delpesche and Leah Cumberbatch meet Nigeria from 4:30 am ECT and England from 11 am, at the National Exhibition Centre.
On Saturday, the Vincentian Table Tennis players face off against Singapore from 4:30 am ECT.
The swimmers will again compete on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, while Track and Field athletes Mc Kish Compton and Javon Rawlins will be in action in the 100m on Tuesday, August 2.
On Wednesday, Handal Roban and Desroy Jordan take to the track in the 800m, while Mikeisha Welcome will compete in the Women’s Triple Jump.
Jabari Michael-Khensu and Rawlins are in the set position for the 200m on Thursday, August 4. Track and Field is at the Alexander Stadium.
And, cyclist Zefal Bailey rides in the Road Race which comes off August 7. The Road Race takes place at Myton Field in Warwick.
