I am still in love with my ex-boyfriend

Social Share

Hey Rosie,

I am a 19-year-old student at the community college. I was in a relationship with this guy for 8 months. During these months I met this guy who wanted me to break up with my boyfriend and be with him.{{more}} Now I am single, he wants to have a serious relationship but I don’t want to because I am still in love with my ex boyfriend. I want to give it a chance but I don’t want to hurt him. What should I do?

Confused

Dear Confused,

I want to share something with you. I can vividly remember being 19. I had lots of friends (boys and girls), school, travel etc. It was fun. The reason I want to talk to you is that you are just at the beginning of your adult life. This is where you are going to make many choices and some will be harder than some.

How about this? Why not just date different people? Go out, in a group or one on one. Meet different types of guys, see what this world has to offer. By no means am I telling you to sleep with everyone you are going to meet, but you will be able to weed out the true losers and users. Believe me they come in different packages!

Maybe this is a great opportunity for you to be friends with these two guys. Let them know that you would like to take a step back from such a serious relationship. What may very well happen is that the “real man” will be revealed by his reaction to this new approach.

You see, very soon you will be done with school, possibly working or going away to further your education. There will be so many more experiences to be had. Do not tie yourself down at this time. Let this be the time to spread your wings, fly and discover your true potential to what life has to offer. Embrace yourself, trust your own instincts, finish school successfully and make a positive change in this world. I have confidence in you. All the best, my friend.
