I don’t know how to tell my boyfriend it’s over

Dear Rosie,

I have been in a off and on relationship for the past three years. When it’s not cheating, it’s lying and I’m quite fed up of this. Now, this great guy has come along, he’s sweet, loving and he cares about me… like really cares about me! He helps me with my school work, especially my SBAs and he is everything my boyfriend could never be. Don’t get me wrong, I love my boyfriend, it’s just that I love this guy too, but I don’t know how to tell my boyfriend it’s over. Please help me, Rosie.

Utterly, Sad and Confuse

Hello Utterly, Sad and Confused,

Don’t be sad and confused. I’ve often said that if your gut is telling you something you should listen.  So for the last three years you have been given major signs that this relationship may not be working out, but you haven’t been listening.

Also, may I say that you are also so young to be going through this type of drama?  Why would you put up with someone lying and cheating on you like this?  You have to say to yourself, “I deserve much better than this”!

Finally, in my opinion, I wouldn’t jump into another deep relationship.  I would end this present relationship, because it sounds like you’ve checked out of this situation already. Then with your new suitor I would be just friends with him, not going too deep in a relationship at this point. Be friends, enjoy each other’s company, learn to respect each other and earn mutual respect. Sometimes we are so quick to jump back into the fire and we haven’t taken the time to heal from our past scars.
