GHF to host 9th International Garifuna Conference March 11-13
The Garifuna Heritage Foundation (TGHF), will be hosting the 9th International Garifuna Conference from March 11-13 as part of National Heroes and Heritage Month celebrations.
In a release, the Foundation said the event, to be held virtually via the zoom platform is being held in collaborating with the UWI Open Campus under the theme: “Building Resilience- Creating Cultural Capital for Sustainability of the Garifuna Heritage.
It gets going with an opening ceremony on Friday, March 11, 2022 at 7:00p.m with Belezian Garifuna entrepreneur, Darius Avila delivering the keynote address.
Avila is said to have provided the leadership and vision that created the Battle of the Drums Movement in Belize which has been outstanding.
On March 12 -13 the Conference commences at 5:00 p.m and will feature scholars and practitioners delivering presentations on various aspects of the Garifuna Culture. There will also be presentations from local organisations, and researchers, among others.
Panel One will address: Strengthening Management and Operations of NGOs and Community Groups in the delivery of Garifuna Heritage Services.
Panel Two will be on: Strategies for Survival and Sustainability- Pursuing Social and Economic Goals in the Context of Cultural Development.
The third panel will be on: Garifuna Cultural Manifestations as Living Heritage; while panel four will focus on: Balliceaux.
The foundation said it is inviting the general public and the media to join in all sessions of the virtual conference.
