Levi Latham Health Centre marks Vaccination Week with health fair
The Levi Latham Health Centre was abuzz with activities as the health facility hosted a health fair to mark “Vaccination week in the Americas” on Wednesday April 27, April 2022. The Fair was held under the theme “Are you fully vaccinated? Get all your shots.”
According to a release from the Agency for Public Information, Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment, and Member of Parliament for Marriaqua, St. Clair Prince expressed how pleased he was with the hosting of the fair and its focus on vaccination, which is an important aspect of public health.
The minister added that vaccines have saved millions of lives and he didn’t want the public to believe that vaccination week was only about the COVID-19 vaccine, but that all vaccines in general are celebrated, and the health fair is to bring more awareness about this.
He, however encouraged the public to continue to adhere to all health protocols for COVID-19 because the country is still going through a pandemic, and to get vaccinated.
The Pan American Health Organization’s representative, Nicole Liburd said that vaccination week was born in 2002 by the health ministers in the Americas and that vaccines have proven effective in dealing with diseases such as poliomyelitis commonly called polio, and measles.
Sister, Arlene James of the Levi Latham Health Centre showed her appreciation to former health workers from the Marriaqua District by presenting them with bouquets and fruit plates among other things. Visitors at the fair were greeted with music and was invited to view the various stalls.
