Rose Place Roseans trump South Leeward to take Football knockout title
Rose Place Roseans, considered one of the under dogs in the South Leeward Sports Association’s Football League silenced their nay sayers by emerging as the knock out champions.
The moment of glory came last Saturday at the Campden Park Playing Field, when they beat the much -fancied Parkside Rollers in the final.
A grinding, intriguing two halves of football produced no goals, thus sending the decider into penalty kicks.
The tense battle was extended to the penalty kicks, and it required sudden death to arrive at a winner with Rose Place Roseans trumping 4-3.
The knock out title crowned off a good show from Rose Place Roseans, who also placed third in the league segment.
Rose Place Roseans docked in behind champions, QUESCO and second place, Campdonia Chelsea.
Largo Height; K&R Strikers; Roxdale; and Buccament completed the eight teams that contested for honours.
Awards were also dished out to deserving players. Taking the major award was Rose Place Roseans’ Azara Dennie, adjudged the Player of the Tournament.
Dennie, in addition was the leading goal scorer with 10 strikes.
Earning the Most Promising goal keeper award was Roxdale’s Jolaney Murray. Walking away with the Most Improved Player award was Lorenzo Hadaway of K&R Strikers.
Two awards were presented to the Most Promising midfielders. The awardees were Imani Miller of Camdonia- Chelsea, and Roxdale’s Sudesh Soondor.
